July 4th Weekend

Our vacation excitement started on Thursday afternoon. Joey and I decided to be brave and take all three babies to CiCi's pizza. Hey, you can't beat feeding a family of 5 for 12.00! (All of our children are under three so they eat for free!)It was a little challenging but we made it and the kids were fed well. At one point a random stranger came up and rubbed my back. We finished eating, headed home for baths and bed and that's when the real work began. I had to pack for two days at the beach, and have the house ready so the next morning we could eat breakfast and be ready to go by 10:00 am. Saturday morning started early as usual. The kids were up playing, Joey was mowing the grass. I made the kids their pancakes and finished all the odds and ends to get ready to go. Finally at about 11:00 we headed out. It was an easy trip down to the beach; the kids slept the whole way. When we got to the beach Joey's mom, Terri, had sandwiches and chips ready and then it was time to play in the water! Ayden loved the water, Brock, not too much and Bethany was content with her momma. This was a special weekend because not only was grandma, grandpa, great grandma & greatpapa at the beach but "Aunt Donna, cousin Brylee & Kayla and also "Uncle Bryant" were at there too! Brylee was so sweet taking care of Bethany and being a little momma to her. Later that night we had spaghetti, Joey's grandma was a brave women letting my children eat spaghetti in her house with white walls ! :) The fireworks started when it got dark around 8:30, Bethany was already asleep by then. Ayden loved the fireworks, Brock gave a few "wow's" but I think he'll be more excited next year. We settled in around 9:30 and surprisingly the kids slept all night... well, Brock got up once for his pacy but we won't count that one. 6:30 am and yes, my children were up and ready to go. Everyone else in the house were normal human beings so they were sleeping. We kept them quiet for about an hour but after that we had to give up, Joey's parents switched rooms, we took them in the living room aso the kids could watch TV. At about 8:00 am Joey's grandma got up and made eggs, biscuts, cheese grits, & sausage links. We took the kids outside to swing, go for a walk, & then they got in to the water. It was so neat because while the boys were in the boat a group of ducks came swimming to them. They fed them bread and kept them close by for about 10 minutes, Ayden was excited and Brock just kind of chilled out in the boat. We couldn't believe that Brock actually got in the water, that was a big step for him! Next was the annual "Third Street Fourth of July Parade" People from all over make floats and dress up their bikes, golf carts, wagons, etc. and parade down the street throwing candy. The parade went by fast but it was nice to see people are still patriotic and neighbors can still be friendly. After the parade we ate lunch and put all the kids down for a nap. Wow, two hours of free time, now that was nice! I got to lay out and Joey took a nap. Three o'clock came and the kids were up again, first Bethany, then Brock, and then Ayden. The kids went back out in the water and played outside while Joey's dad and grandma worked on the famous "frogmore stew" no, there aren't any frogs in it but if one slipped in you probably wouldn't be able to tell because there is so much in the stew. It has corn on the cob, sausage, shrimp, tomatoes, potatoes, and more in it. It was great as usual. We finished eating, cleaned the kids up, loaded the car and headed out about 5:00. When we first started home Joey and I were scared, the kids started fighting and Brock would not stop messing with Ayden. We just knew it was going to be two hours of torture for us! Luckily Bethany fell right asleep and then Brock nodded out for a little while. When we had about 45 minutes left they were all up and started in again. We pulled over twice to try to resolve the conflicts with pacys and juice and finally ended it with a stop at Dairy queen for a brownie earthquake with three spoons! This pacificed the kids until we got home 15 minutes later but I ended up in the chiropractor's office a few days later with a messed up shoulder due to reaching behind my seat to fill up spoons and distribute them.... love is painful sometimes :) Sunday we went to church and came home and just relaxed! Once in a while before an eventful weekend Joey and I will contemplate just not going because the thought of loading up all the kids and then having to deal with meltdowns and stuff outweighs the fun. Then you meet the family that came into our office this week, they have a little boy that will never walk, a child that participates in the Miracle League, a team that is for special needs children that allows them to play baseball every Saturday. Some of those children can't talk, walk, or will never be able to say "thanks mom and dad for making the sacrifice to let me play baseball" You see these parents that love their children more than a pat on the back or a thanks. Seeing the sacrifice they have to make just reminds me how blessed I am that my kids can cry out for juice and pacys or reach over and pull their siblings' hair. So many times the things that we look at as a burden others would see as a blessing.........
