Joey and I had always dreamed of having hardwood floors in the house; well, in 2005 we got them! Only a a few short weeks later, when Ayden was still a little baby our living room flooded due to a hurricane (twice!). But out of the storm there is always a rainbow and our "rainbow" was that we were able to put new carpet in the whole house... then came kids!
Six years later that beautiful carpet we put down had to go, it had lots too many rounds with the Lancaster kids and puppy dogs. So we took a weekend and worked on the floor. Labor Day weekend was perfect because the concrete had sit for about 10+ hours to dry.
Thursday night we moved all the furniture, pulled up the carpet and started chipping away to make the concrete even. As we pulled up that carpet Joey and I had a flood of emotions & memories come over us. We thought about the day that our floor flooded the first time and then the second time I remember holding Ayden in my arms, I can literally remember the outfit Ayden was wearing feeling completely helpless thinking "Ok, God, how are we going to fix this?" Joey thought about the people that we met during the process of cleaning up and putting down the new carpet. Out of the chaos of that event Joey received a job, our whole house was re carpeted and someone even came to accept Christ! There truly was blessings that came out what we thought was a disaster.
Joey worked on leveling the concrete on Friday during the day and when we got home from work and school we headed to the beach for the weekend!
The beach was great but Monday it was time to get back to work! We all worked as a team sanding, vacuuming and putting the new floor down.
We finally got our hardwood floors sort of ... we went with a laminate hardwood "looking" floor. The seems to be the best fit for the season our family is in right now.
The floor turned out great and we are really happy with the end result!
"our rainbow" after the storm, 6 years in the making
