Ayden, my two and 1/2 year old loves his pacy. He would have to have one in his mouth and several on hand. To this date I bet we have purchased over 100 pacies. He has his favorites, his fishy and pooh bears so we had to have a couple of those in stock just in case one got missing. As cute as Ayden was with his pacy in his mouth I was beginning to picture him in his cap and gown photo with a cute little pooh bear pacy accessorizing the whole outfit.
One night we were watching "The Nanny" she was putting these 4 year old's diapers in a treasure chest for pirates to take and leave them something in the morning. The kids were completely ok the next morning so I thought, ok I'm going to try this. As Ayden dozed off in my arms I went to work, first removing the pacy from his mouth, then the one from his hands, and then finding all of the secret hiding spots in the house and removing those pacies too.
The next morning Ayden woke up and I had to give him the bad that pirates had stolen all of his pacies during the night. Surprisingly he didn't ask why they had not stolen Brock or Bethany's.
Well, that's been almost two months ago and Ayden is now pacy free. No he has had a few relapses, I'll catch him stealing Bethany's pacy and have to tell him to give it back or the pirates will steal her's too. He doesn't take Brock's because Brock has learned the art of tattle-taleling and if that doesn't work then he has also learned to fight for his property.
Last night Ayden finally got to meet some real pirates at the art council center in Goldsboro. Joey was worried that Ayden would be scared when he saw them. He described Ayden first seeing them so well, he said out of the corner of his eye he could see the pirate coming out of the darkness so he looked at Ayden to see if he was going to be scared but Ayden already spotted them and he had that mischievous smile on his face with his tongue hanging out
(he sticks his tongue out when he gets excited). Ayden was so excited to see those "dang pirates" as he calls them,(
I'm working on changing his description of them) he had a really good time last night.
We as adults sometimes forget that just like children we tend to hold onto things that are a comfort to us. Did you have a favorite blanket or bear as a child? It's so hard for us to just "let go and let God". For me I struggle all the time with trying to hold on to my "plan B"... If the money doesn't come in then I'll do this or if this doesn't happen then I do this. I guess this is where God talks about childlike faith. Ayden was able to let go and accept that pirates took his pacy and they weren't coming back. My two year old has once again taught me a valuable lesson.
YOu are so right girl!!! I am the same way.. always a Plan B, and God is working on me about trusting him too!! I guess there are negatives to being planners and organizers too!! We tend to want to take things into our own hands instead of waiting on the Lord.. It is such a blessing to know that others struggle with this.
