My baby boy turned 4 years old March 26th, 2010! Ayden from the time he was born LOVES attention and makes a huge deal out of celebrations. It's fun planning his birthday because he gets so involved. Even when he had his first birthday he just knew it was his birthday and made it so fun with his witty personality. As always I started planning his birthday a couple of months ago. Ayden decided that he wanted a hot wheels/cars birthday. I started early picking up cars to go on his cupcake. He picked out certain cars for each person coming. We had a school bus for Brock, VW bugs for the girls, an excavator for dad, etc. We let Ayden have an early birthday gift, he got to open two birthday cards (one from each of his great grandma and papa) the night before and they both had money in them. He was soooooo excited. Ayden's day was a full one. He started off with a dentist appointment first thing in the morning. Joey and I don't give the kids a lot of candy and they have never had a soft drink and it showed when they were examining his teeth. Ayden's teeth looked great and the dentist was very proud of both mom and dad for helping to keep his teeth that way :) Next was the Trike-a-Thon at Ayden's daycare. When I got the package the first thing it tells you to do is pick a goal of how much money your child would like to raise. Ayden decided that $30 would be a good goal. Well in less than a day, a dollar here and a dollar there, he collected over $100 to go towards the St. Jude's hospital. That was a gift in itself to be able to tell Ayden about little boys and girls that were sick that he was able to help them. When he had opened up his cards the night before I asked him what he was going to do with his birthday money and he said "here mom, we can give it to the boys and girls at the hospital" it brought tears to my eyes. Next was his "school birthday party" The night before we had made cupcakes for him to take to school and each one of his friends got their own car to take home. Later that night about 6:00 we had our family birthday party. Ayden decided that he wanted baked spaghetti for his birthday dinner. Baked spaghetti..... the only image I had was all of those spaghetti faces and stained clothes.... but.... my baby wanted spaghetti and spaghetti was what he would get. I learned a neat trick of taking plastic bags and making clothes covers out of them so we didn't have too many spaghetti stains. Joey's dad is the cook of the family so he made the spaghetti and I took care of the cupcakes and salad. We invited our immediate family over for the birthday which is about 15 -20 people when everyone shows up. My brother has three little girls and they are all the same age as our three so it works out great for a nice birthday party. Ayden made his wish, blew out his candles and it was official, he was Four Years Old! Next was PRESENTS! the funnest part of being a kid! Our kids are so blessed. Ayden got trucks, clothes, a bike, and the neatest one of all was one of his dad's old trucks. I think he cherished that one the most. Since the kids are still so little and really don't understand that it's only one person's birthday we have always got them a little something too so they still feel special. Bethany got a baby doll and Brock a dump truck. The night ended about 8:30 with baths and the fun of playing with all the new stuff. The next day we played outside with our new toys and enjoyed the spaghetti leftovers for lunch. That evening we headed over to grandma & papa Arbeau's house to celebrate "uncle Shawn's" (my brother) 24th birthday. Every time the kids have a birthday it makes me think of them being born and how it was carrying them for those nine months. Ayden was my very active baby when I carried him. I knew he was going to be a go getter from the first time I felt him kick while watching a hockey game. This year he learned how to be potty like a big boy, take showers like a big boy and also take spankings like a big boy :) Ayden is a very strong willed little boy but I know it's because God has big plans for him. Ayden takes life by the handles and runs with it everyday. Our life would be so boring without him. Happy 4th birthday to my baby boy.
