Sunday Morning Devotions

About a year ago Joey and I were talking about making the bible relevant to the kids so we started up doing Sunday morning devotions. We attend church as a family on Thursday nights (which we love!) so Sundays are a rest filled day and the perfect day to do a devotion together. Well the kids would hear the story but we needed something else to grab their attention so we added in the "act it out" part and it really took off!

We all gather around the table and have breakfast and then each person gets their own bible. Up until this year none of the kids could read but they are really good at pictures :)

We pick a story that goes with what we are having questions or issues with that week and read a small portion of the story
and then the kids act it out.
On this day we told them the story of one of the first "super heros of the bible, Sampson

and how Sampson let his guard down and his "super power" (the strength from his hair) was taken away

Even when we have sleepovers we still do our devotions
when it was close to Christmas we did a story of the birth of Jesus

Sometimes the dogs even got to watch :)
We've done impromptu devotions from our bed

the method can change but The Message is always the same.

This year has been such a blessing because our first born is now reading the word all by himself! It brings tears to my eyes when I heart him reading the bible. What an amazing gift reading and understanding is. We take the Bible for granted so much in America. We try to remind the kids all the time how people in other countries literally die trying to read God's word and here we are so blessed that every person in our house has their own bible and can read it anytime they want! My prayer is that in those times when I take being able to read the Bible for granted God will remind me of the image of our first born reading the word by himself for the first time and what a joy that was to my soul as a parent and how much my heavenly father must be overjoyed when He hears me read the Word!
Start children off on the way they should go,
and even when they are old they will not turn from it.
